Alcoholism Quiz

Voice of Recovery from Addiction

Alcoholism Quiz….

I guess you could say I’m rather small in size.  I’m only 5’3 and a hundred and something pounds. In spite of my small size, I drank like a 6’6, 300 pound man.  How I consumed as much as I did and am still alive today is totally beyond me.  Jim Beam, Jack Daniels and Jose Cuervo were three of my favorite men and I played with them on a regular basis.  I didn’t do the beer thing (Unless I was already trashed, then I’d drink anything) I wasn’t into the girly foo foo drinks and I’d often do my “shots” straight from the bottle rather than use a shot glass.  When I sunk lower and lower into my own addiction, and couldn’t afford my drinks of choice, I had no problem sinking lower and lower by consuming Sisco which is known and a drunks drink.  It’s that $3.00 bottle of really nasty wine which will tear you up quicker than the expensive stuff.  Towards the end of my drinking career, I’d consume that Rot Gut ABC vodka by the gallon.  YES I said by the gallon…it was nothing for me to consume a gallon by my self.  I found myself hiding my bottles even though there was no reason for me to do so in my own house and often drank at home alone as well as out and about.

Why am I telling you this?  Because I want you to see how bad I got and how I at no time took my health into consideration while I was drinking.  Looking back at my actions, I can’t believe how I didn’t have any liver damage, how I didn’t drink myself into wet brain and how I didn’t suffer from any of the physical consequences that come with the kind of heavy drinking I did. Somebody “Upstairs” was truly looking out for me to say the very least, that’s the only way I can justify it.  I was drinking myself into an early grave and had one foot in already.  In spite of all that, I STILL didn’t see any of it as a problem.  I STILL swore everyone was full of it when they told me that I had one.  I STILL was convinced that I had it all under control.

There are many who have met me via FB or in person after I got sober so they find it hard to believe that I was once as bad as I say I was.  They can’t picture  me that destructive. To them I say that’s a good thing, people didn’t like me much back then…LOL  But I assure you that everything I write or say is beyond accurate.  I really was a walking train wreck.  While doing some research for something recently, I came across an Alcoholism Quiz.  I was curious so I took it even though I knew full well that I am in fact an alcoholic.  I decided to  add that same quiz in this blog.  If you think you have a problem, or if you know someone who you think might, take the quiz or have them take it.  What do you have to loose? How many will you HONESTLY answer “Yes” to????

I answered 14 items out of 20 Yes.

My score is 70%. According to the Office of Health Care Programs, Johns Hopkins University Hospital, developers of this screening quiz, if I answered as few as 3 of these questions with a Yes it is a definite sign that my drinking patterns are harmful and considered alcohol dependent or alcoholic. Since I answered more than half of these questions Yes this quiz suggests that I should definitely seek an evaluation by a healthcare professional as soon as possible.

Of course I’m sure that had I taken this quiz while I was still drinking, I would have said it was rigged  in some way and didn’t have a clue what it was talking about.  Denial was kinda my thing back then.  LOL.  The truth is, I find this quiz to be totally accurate and I hope if you’re reading this and have taken the quiz you found it to be helpful.
